Upsala and Onelli Glaciers We will go from El Calafate to Punta Bandera Port and we will sail up to the northern arm of Lake Argentino until we arrive at Upsala Glacier, the largest, that is an impressive mass of ice that is 50 km in length and many kilometers in density. In the front of this there are loose blocks of ice that then form into iceberg navigating the lake like a sailboat. Our boat will sail paralel to the Glacier for several kilometers, arriving at Onelli Bay and from there we will go through a passage for 1500 meters until we reach Onelli Lagoon where we can observe the Agassiz, Bolado and Onelli Glaciers. We will have lunch at a typical restaurant of the region, and then we will return to the point of departure.

Perito Moreno Glacier
We will leave from El Calafate and travelling 80 km we will arrive at Perito Moreno Glacier, formed 30,000 years ago. The height is 80 meters and the space it covers is 3 km. This is the only glacier in the world that separates two bodies of water (the Argentina Sea from the Rich Sea , both part of Lake Argentino ). This causes a difference in water level, and the tremendous pressure causes the ice to weaken every 4 years so that the water from the Rich Sea penetrates Lake Argentino across the Canal of the Icebergs. This moment of rupture that normally happens in January, is one of the most spectacular impressions of the world. This excursion consists in observing from land at many angles, and each one closer than the one before, the extraordinary spectacular of the glacier, destroyed by Lake Argentino and our observation of the great clunks of ice falling.
 |
Nautical Safari We will leave from the footbridge located in front of Perito Moreno Glacier. There we will begin a marshy journey to the Iceberg Canals where we will enjoy a new version of the front of this glacier (this excursion is sold together with Perito Moreno Glacier ).
Minitrekking
We will leave from El Calafate by boat to Brazo Rico of Lake Argentino . There we can take short walks on the ice of Perito Moreno Glacier, observing its flora and fauna. Return to El Calafate. |
